4 Tips to Help Your Clients Choose Flattering Prom Hairstyles

Prom season is right around the corner, which means your salon will be flooded with young women relying on you to give them the perfect hairstyle for their big night. Getting ready for prom is fun and exciting, but picking out just the right hairstyle can be a major challenge and you don't want to disappoint. An up-do may look great on some of your clients, but not on others. Similarly, some of your clients may love the curly, flowing locks look, while others can't stand having their hair down. So, how do you help your clients decide on the best prom hairstyle? Here are some tips to help you find the most flattering hairstyle for each of your clients this prom season.
Pay attention to your client's hair type. Before you do anything else, take a good look at your client's hair and ask her what it's like on a daily basis. Is her hair so thick to the point where it won't hold a curl all night long? Does her hair frizz easily when there is high humidity? Knowing how your client's hair behaves on a regular basis will help you narrow down the type of hairstyle to do and the products you should have handy at your styling station to use when you need them.
Ask what kind of dress your client is wearing. Chances are your client spent a lot of time searching for the absolutely perfect dress, so make sure she has the best hairstyle possible to compliment the design of her dress. If your client is wearing a halter dress, an up-do may be the way to go to better highlight the dress' features. For a strapless dress, curling your client's hair and letting it flow freely will keep your client from feeling too exposed. Show interest in your client's big night, ask to see a photo of her dress, and use that to help you decide what hairstyle choose.
Consider the shape of your client's face. Not every hairstyle looks good on everybody, and a lot of that is due to each person's unique facial features and shape. Up-dos are typically flattering on round-faces, while a half-do or wearing hair loose looks best on longer faces. Take the shape of your client's face into consideration when helping her choose the right prom hairstyle.
Match your client's hairstyle to her personality. Every girl wants to feel beautiful and special on her prom night. But if she is stuck with a hairstyle that just doesn't fit who she is, she won't feel comfortable in her own skin. So ask her what her everyday style and personality are like. Is she typically a very classy and polished individual? If so, a slicked back hairstyle may be the way to go. A girl who is more elegant and traditional may prefer an up-do, while someone who is very bubbly and loves to dance will have more fun with loose curls that will move as easily as she does on the dance floor. At the end of the day, make sure your client's hairstyles reflect who they are and make them feel comfortable.
Prom is a great opportunity for you to have fun and create some stunning hairstyles. These tips will help you figure out the best style for your client, but don't forget to also ask her opinion. You won't know what she is looking for until you ask, and she may have some ideas saved on her smartphone to give you inspiration!
