How to Make Your Client's Blow Dry Last A Week

The tips I give to my clients about how to make their blowouts last are hands-down their favorites. Let's face it, we all wish we didn't have to wash and style our hair so much, and the good news is, your clients can always go a lot longer than they think, they just have to be armed with the right weapons. Read below to find the tried and true tips that will maximize that blowout and help it to last longer than your client ever imagined.

Dry Shampoo, Duh

By now, most of us think that every client has heard of dry shampoo, but I'm always surprised how often I mention it and it doesn't register with them. Dry shampoo is hands down the best product to make a blowout last. One of my favorites is actually called Anti-Humidity Spray, by Oribe. This product works like a dry shampoo, anti-humidity, and hair spray hyrbrid. I've never seen a product work so well to fight humidity and moisture. It's pricey at $39, but every client who has purchased it has raved about the results.

Sleep With Hair Up

At night we tend to perspire and toss and turn which can all lead to one sad looking blowout in the morning. This trick has always made the difference for me when I've been trying to extend my own blowout. Before you go to bed, flip your head over and twist your hair into a bun that sits right on top of your head. Secure with bobby pins, and as you sleep your hair will remain detangled and protected from any moisture.

Terry Cloth Shower Cap

Protecting your hair while you shower or bathe is obviously a must. Water is a blowout's worst nightmare! Protect your hair with a shower cap that is lined with terry cloth. Regular shower caps actually trap moisture in them, but this genius shower cap creates a barrier of protection with the terry cloth lining. You can also tell your client to pick up a terry cloth headband which will protect their hairline when they wash their face. If they don't want to invest in either of these things, a good old towel wrapped around their hair when they shower will do the trick.

Extended Styling Tips

One of the best ways to make a blowout last is to extend it with different styling options. When my hair starts to get greasy beyond repair, I'll throw it up into a high ponytail, and voila. You can't tell its greasy, and I've just bought myself a few more days. After the ponytail I'll move onto a bun or a braid, and theres plenty of other styles that you could get creative with. Show your clients an easy way to throw their hair up, and I always like to send them home with a few bobby pins and hair pins to get them started.

For those clients that tell you they feel dirty when they don't wash their hair, remind them that unless they've had something dumped on their heads, it's not actually dirty. Hair is unlike fabric in that it doesn't actually absorb anything onto it. And a product like dry shampoo will be more than enough to 'clean it'.
