Skin Care Survival Tips For Summer Festivals

Warmer weather is on its way which also means that music festival season is kicking into high gear.  For many people there is nothing more fun than spending the entire day or even a few days outdoors listening to live music.  But all that time in the sun can take a serious toll on your skin.  Here is a survival guide so your skin looks just as great at the end of the festival as it did at the beginning.

Get Your Products Ready Beforehand and Keep Things Simple

Making sure you have the right skin care products to take with you to the festival you are attending is as important as having the right outfit.  Get yourself a small pouch that is waterproof or even a sturdy ziploc bag to fill with your products.  This way you know you have somewhere to easily store everything you are taking with you.  It is easy for things to get damaged or lost in the worst case scenario so keep your storage bag or container simple, easy to carry, waterproof, and sturdy enough to withstand being dropped.

Bring a cleanser (see below for suggestions), lip balm, hydrating spray, and lots of sunscreen with you.

Keep Your Skin Clean

It doesn't matter if you are camping out while enjoying the festival you are attending or sleeping in a hotel you definitely need to devote some time each evening to properly and thoroughly cleaning your face. While you are enjoying listening to your favorite bands during the festival you are attending dirt, sweat, sunscreen, and make-up are all going to stick to your face.  Before you go to sleep you have to take all of this dirt and sweat off or you risk getting irritated skin and/or breakouts.  The easiest ways to do this is with a micellar water or a cleansing wipe because you don't need water to use either of these products.

Hydrate Your Body and Your Skin

You already know it is important to drink a lot of water while attending an outdoor festival.  But don't forget to hydrate your skin during the day as well.  Hydrating sprays make it easy to keep your skin fresh and refreshed throughout the day without messing up your make-up.  Skin hydrating products can be used as often as you want throughout the day to revive tired skin or easily soothe irritated, dry skin.

Don't Forget Your Lips

Many times we forget how important it is to hydrate our lips and keep them protected from the sun at the same time. When attending an outdoor festival be sure to always have a lip balm, lipstick, or lip gloss with you that has SPF (sun protection).  There is no need to skimp on style or sun protection; you can definitely get both at the same time.

Emergency Supplies

Even if you are being great about keeping your skin clean and hydrated while attending your favorite festival you could find that your skin freaks out anyhow.  There are lots of reasons that this could occur and sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly what caused your skin issues.  To be on the safe side it is important to have skin soothing products with you just in case of an emergency.  So be sure to pack a hydrocortisone cream to treat bug bites, itching skin, or rashes.  It can also help if you unfortunately get a sunburn.  You might also want to consider bringing a hydrating overnight mask with you to apply at night. This can help soothe skin that has had a lot of sun exposure during the day.

Last But Never Lest - Lots and Lots of Sunscreen!

I've saved the most important tip for last - you must, must bring lots of sunscreen with you!  This is not negotiable.  Which sunscreen you bring and how many different kinds of sunscreen is up to you, but you need to keep reapplying sunscreen throughout the day in order to make sure you are properly protected from the sun.  Applying sunscreen once at the beginning of the day and then standing outside all day will just lead to a sunburn.  Also be sure to always wear a wide brimmed hat and if you can protective clothing as well.  Seek shade during the hottest hours of the day.  Also do not forget to make sure the back of your neck, the tops of your ears, and your feet are covered with sunscreen.  Get a friend to help you apply sunscreen to your back if your shirt doesn't cover your whole back.
